Inviting Nepali Youth for the Second Cohort of Youth Sounding Board
On Europe Day (9 May 2023), the Delegation of the European Union (EUD) to Nepal launched the application call for the second cohort of Youth Sounding Board (YSB). Like the first cohort, the second cohort of Youth Sounding Board will be consisting of 25 young people from the age 18-29 from Madhesh, Karnali, and Surdurpashhim provinces and will be implemented together by Youth Innovation Lab, Oxfam Nepal, Helvetas Nepal, and Restless Development working closely with EUD. The Youth Sounding Board will make the voices of youth heard, advise on key strategic priorities of the EU strategy in Nepal, and engage in communication, networking, and dialogues and advocacy platform that amplifies the voices of young people in Nepal.
Youth Sounding Board has been an initiative of the European Union to create a platform for youth to make their voice heard. The formation of YSB started in Brussels and similar boards have been formed around the world, including in Nepal where the founding cohort was launched in 2022. In Nepal, YSB is a consultative space for Nepalese youth to have an influence on the EU’s action making the action more participatory, relevant, and effective for them. It is an all-inclusive, multi-sectoral platform of engagement designed to bring together youth voices at the table to guide the EU's development cooperation in Nepal.
Launching the application call for the second cohort, EU Ambassador to Nepal, H.E. Nona Deprez shared, in the past nine months YSB members have shared their ideas and input with the EU. They have participated in the dialogue with the government. They have met the European Union Commissioner for Partnership in Nepal and Brussels. They have discussed with European Parliamentarian, and they have visited the action we funded and given advice for more relevant. Young people have the ideas and drive to change the world and we must listen to them. This is also an excellent opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills, network, and meet other youth.
The call for candidates will be from 9 May to 31 May 2023 and H.E. Nona Deprez invites all the youth from Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces to be part of this exciting cohort and to work with us to make our action more youth-centric, relevant, and participatory. Interested youth can visit the website NYCAGG-Youth Sounding Board (https://theyouthcan.org/youth-sounding-board/call-for-candidates) to apply to be a member of the Youth Sounding Board.
